Trophy Ballistics

User guide

From your first gun to your own corrections.

Everything in the app, step by step. No experience with ballistics apps needed.

01

First steps

Add your gun

Go to Guns and tap Add gun. Choose Centerfire, Rimfire or Airgun. Fill in a name, the caliber, the scope height and your zero distance.

Scope height

The distance from the centre of the bore to the centre of the scope, often about 50 mm.

Twist rate

Often stamped on the barrel. If not, measure it: push a tight patch on a freely turning rod until it has turned once. The distance it moved is the twist. Repeat it three times. Left empty, the app calculates without spin drift and stability.

Add your ammo

Tap Add ammo on the gun. Fill in the velocity, the BC and whether it is G1 or G7. Not measured yet? Save anyway; the app says what is missing.

Look up ammo

Tap Look up online and type brand, product and weight. The caliber of your gun is added. The search opens in your browser; take the values from the maker's page and enter them yourself. If the page names neither G1 nor G7, it is usually G1.

Choose your units

Set everything in Settings, for example metres with MRAD, or per quantity.

02

Calculating

Solve

Pick your gun and ammo, fill in the distance and wind, and read your elevation and wind correction.

Wind

Enter the speed and tap the clock for the direction. 12 is headwind, 3 is wind from the right.

Environment and weather

Open Environment and weather for temperature, pressure and humidity, or fetch them for your location or a place. Here too: shot angle, dual wind, Coriolis and moving targets.

Table

See all distances at once. Your distance and zero are marked in the row. You can change the range and columns, and share the table.

03

On the range

Add a session

At your ammo, open Load and sessions and tap Add session. Fill in your velocity, shots, SD, ES and temperature. A chrono file can be read as well.

Group size

The two holes furthest apart, centre to centre.

Where it hit

Optional. How far the middle of the group is from your aim point. The app turns it into a sight correction.

Measure on a photo

Print a target card from the app at 100 %. Take a straight photo from about a metre, with all corner dots in view. Set the corners, then the holes. Any rectangle with a known size works too.

Several groups

Tap Add group. The app uses the average.

04

Let the app learn

Real shots

Enter the distance and the elevation that really hit. The app corrects velocity or drop from it.

Temperature table

Add sessions at different temperatures to the table. The app then uses the right velocity for the day.

Chance of a hit and maximum distance

From your own photo group and SD, the app shows your chance on a target at distance, and how far you keep it.

05

Reloading

Your load

Keep your recipe under Your load. A charge shows in grains and grams while you type, and the app warns when it is heavier than the bullet.

Load test

Enter each step you fired, with shots, velocity, SD and group. The app shows which step is most stable, or says the difference is too small. The app never suggests a charge: stay within published load data.

Load card

Puts your load, latest session and tables on one A4.

06

Calculators

Shooting on a slope

Enter the rangefinder distance and the angle. You see the real elevation, and can send it to Solve.

Target size

How big a target is in your scope, or how far away it is when you know its size.

Maximum point blank range

How far you can aim dead on and stay in the vital zone. It can count your own group.

Unit converter

Type one value and read all other units at once, also bar and psi.

True velocity, BC and twist

Find your velocity from a shot at distance, a BC from two velocities, and the twist a bullet needs.

07

Airgun and rimfire

Airgun

Choose Pellet or Slug at the ammo. A pellet calculates with G1; a BC you measured yourself is best. Airguns are still being developed, so check results extra carefully.

Rimfire

Works like a centerfire, without the reloading parts.

08

Your data

Backup

Your data is only on your device. Under Settings, make a backup regularly and keep the file somewhere else. The file is not encrypted.

New phone

Move the backup file and tap Restore.

Help and ideas

09

Stay safe

Results are estimates

Check your zero and your data on the range before you rely on them. Never rely on the app alone for a shot at game.

Reloading

A wrong load can destroy a gun and cause serious injury. Follow published data.
